  Since the top of the traditional Bretton Woods system, IMF members have been free to decide on any type of trade arrangement they wish (except pegging their foreign money to gold), reminiscent of: allowing the currency to float freely, pegging it to a different forex or a basket of currencies, adopting the forex of another nation, collaborating in a foreign money bloc, or forming a part of a financial union.
